The Offer

"The offer" by Augie March
From "Sunset Studies"

Transcribed by Michael Madden

Okay. Now if you know the song, you'll know it kinda fades in from
nothing. Well, this tab starts just before the singing comes in, but
you can work out the intro if you feel so inclined.

First Verse
Guitar 1:
B Em
This is a song , not like the other ones

D Em B
Secret and selfish and somewhat hollow

The same until..

This is where the second guitar comes in for the first time besides
shadowing the first for most of the way. By my reckoning, it goes:

  ...song, first you must....
.e --------------------------------------------------
B --------------------------------------------------
G --------------------------------------------------
D --------------------------------------------------
A --------------------------------------------------
E --- 3 - 2 - 2 - 3 / 8 ---------------------------

      D Gm Cm
To populate a people's song, first you must do something wrong

	     C B
If you've never been infirm you can never be strong

	   B Em
Prune your rose bushes Glenn,

	  F# B
Or you'll never see your home again

e ----------------------------------------------
B ----------------------------------------------
G ------------------- 0 - 4 - 3 ---------------
D ------- 0 - 4 - 2 ---------------------------
A ---- 2 ---------------------------------------
E -----------------------------------------------

Second Verse

Same as first until chorus:

	  B Em
Prun your rose bushes Glenn

           F# B
Or they'll soon grow up again

                   B Emaj7 F#
There may still be a next year who knows?

	    B E F# B
If you're lonely take a drink, there are better things to think

	 B E F#
Think on ancient cities, sunsets, and girls in spring

*in the last chorus, it goes like:

                D G B
And weren't you supposed to call your friends this evening?

Bridge

This is probably wrong, but I play

B C B D

Em F# G A B

B C G
You needed a song, I needed one too

	       Em C
So keep listening for my offer to you

                                   B
Take it with good grace and humour too

Ending:

    B E
It rained all night the day I left

        F# E
The weather it was fine

     B F# B
It rained all night the day I left

Okay, well I think that's about it. Any problems, work em out yerself.

Cheers
