What Do You Hear In These Sounds

This song is great and although most of it on the album sounds like a synthesizer, it
beautifully on an acoustic guitar. The strum pattern is more difficult than the chords but
easy enough too. Enjoy! ~Octy

(D), (G5), (Em)...

I (D) don't go to therapy to (G55) find out if (A) I'm a freak
I (D) go and I find the one and (G5) only answer (A) every week
And it's (D) just me and all the memories to follow
Down (G5) any course that fits within a (Em) fifty minute hour
And we (D) fathom all the mysteries, ex(G5)plicit and in(A)herent
When I (D) hit a rut, she says to (G5) try the other (A) parent
And she's(D) so kind, I think she (G5) wants to tell me something,
But she (Em) knows that its much better if I (A) get it for myself...And
she says

(D)Oooooooh, aaaaaaah, (G5) What do you hear in these (Em) sounds? And...
(D)Oooooooh, aaaaaaah, (G5) What do you hear in these (Em) sounds?????

I (D) say I hear a doubt, with the (G5) voice of true be(A)lieving
And the (D) promises to stay, and the (G5) footsteps that are (A) leaving
And she (D) says "Oh", I say(G5) "What?"...she says (A)"Exactly",
I say (G5)"What, you think I'm angry
Does that (Em) mean you think I'm angry?"
She says (D) "Look, you come here every week
With (G5) jigsaw pieces (A) of your past
Its (D) all on little soundbytes and (G5) voices out of (A) photographs
And that's (D) all yours, that's the guide, that's the map
So tell me, (G5) where does the (Em) arrow point to?
(A) WHO INVENTED ROSES?"
and.......

(D)Oooooooh, aaaaaaah, (G5) What do you hear in these (Em) sounds? And...
(D)Oooooooh, aaaaaaah, (G5) What do you hear in these (Em) sounds?????

(A)....

And (G5) when I talk about therapy, I (A) know what people think
That it (G5) only makes you selfish and in (A) love with your shrink
But (D) Oh how I loved (G5) everybody else
When I (Em) finally got to talk so (A) much about myself............

And (D) I wake up and I (G5) ask myself what (A) state I'm in
And (D) I say well I'm lucky, cause I (G5) am like (A) East Berlin
I had (D) this wall and what I knew of the free world
Was that (G5) I could see their fireworks
And I (Em) could hear their (A)radio
And I (D) thought that if we met, I would (G5) only start con(A)fessing
And they'd (D) know that I was scared
They'd would (G5) know that I was (A) guessing
But the (D) wall came down and (G5) there they stood before me
With their (Em) stumbling and their mumbling
And their (A) calling out just like me...and...

(D)Oooooooh, aaaaaaah, The (G5) stories that(Em)nobody (A) hears...and...
(D)Oooooooh, aaaaaaah, and I col(G5)lect these (Em) sounds in my (A) ears...and...

(D)Oooooooh, aaaaaaah, (G5) that's what I hear in these (Em) sounds...and...
(D)Oooooooh, aaaaaaah, (G5) that's what I hear in these......
(Em) that's what I hear in these (D) SOUU-(G5)OUUUN (Em) NNNDS (A)yeah yeah
.(D)..(G5)..(A)..(D)...
