This is the version as performed by one of the song's writer's, Ray Kennedy (RIP), 

in the (super) group KGB and other live performances. He claimed these were the 

original lyrics.

Having had to get this version from the KGB recording, I'm not 100% sure about some 

of the words. The Beachboys version is very different and obviously had a set of 

sanitised lyrics written for radio consumption. So, there may be a mondegreen or 2 

in there. Feel free to fix em.
