THE LAST WORD (Mary Chapin Carpenter)
In concert, MCC performed this in the key of F; she was playing in C
with a capo at the 5th fret (it was a segue from "This Shirt"), and
John Jennings played in E with a capo on the 1st fret. On the CD, the
song is in Eb; she plays in C with a capo at the 3rd fret, and Jennings
plays in E with the guitar tuned down 1/2 step. These are the chords
that MCC plays, so capo 3.
In the intro, the G has a Gsus in the middle, and the F has an F(9).

intro

        C G F G C G F G
You can have it, I don't want it, and when you've got it, I'll be gone
         Am G C F C G C - Csus C
It won't matter what you're saying when the damage has all been done

Dm7 C/E F G
Can't seem to keep the faith, as if that's all I need to do
Dm7 C/E F G - Gsus - G
I'd rather walk away than take what belongs to you

You can have it, I don't want it, and when you've got it, I'll be gone
It won't matter what you're saying when the damage has all been done

Some words will cut you down like you were only in the way
Why should I stand ths ground, it won't hurt as much to say

You can have it, I don't want it, and when you've got it, I'll be gone
It won't matter what you're saying when the damage has all been done

Sometimes we're blinded by the very thing we need to see
I finally realized that you need it more than you need me

        C G F G C G F G
You can have it, I don't want it, and when you've got it, I'll be gone
         Am G C F C G Am F
It won't matter what you're saying when the damage has all been done
    C G F Gsus - G
The damage has all been done

C G F G C G F G Am G C F C G C.
