The Rising Sun Blues

The Rising Sun Blues
Traditional

This is a more traditional version of "House of the Rising Sun" that The Animals made famous.
It sounds really good arpeggiated in a 2/4 time, and played slowly and evenly like a
or ballad. If you're wondering why the reference is mainly female, it is because the
Sun was a brothel as well as a gambling house.

      Em Am Em Am
B7
There is a house in New Orleans, they call the Rising Sun,
    Em B7 Em
       Em
Its been the ruin of many poor girls (boys), and me, O Lord, for one.

If I had listened what Mama said, I'd a been at home today
Being so young and foolish, poor boy, let a rambler lead me astray

Go tell my baby siser (brother), never do like I have done,
Tell her (him) shun that house in New Orleans, they call the Rising Sun.

My mother she's a tailor, she sewed those new blue jeans
My sweetheart, he's a gambler, Lord, drinks down in New Orleans.

The only thing that a drunkard wants is a suitcase and a trunk,
The only thing that a rounder likes is to git on a great big drunk.

One foot is on the platform, the other one on the train,
I'm going back to New Orleans to wear that ball and chain.

I'm going back to New Orleans, my race is almost run,
I'm going to spend the rest of my days beneath the Rising Sun.

Go tell my baby sister (brother), never do like I have done,
Tell her (him) shun that house in New Orleans they call the Rising Sun.
