Weevily Wheat

    D D D D D D A A
Oh, Charlie he’s a fine young man, Oh, Charlie he’s a dandy.
G D D G D D D D
Charlie likes to kiss the girls, and he can do it handy.

Chorus:

   D D D D D D A A
I don’t want none of your weevily wheat, I don’t want none of your barley.
G D D G D D D D
I want fine flour in half an hour to bake a cake for Charlie.

Chorus

  D D D D D D A A
Over the river to feed my sheep, over the river, Charlie,
G D D G D D D D
Over the river to feed my sheep, and measure up my barley.

Chorus

    D D D D D D A A
The higher up the cherry tree, the riper grow the cherries,
    G D D G D D D D
The more you hug and kiss the girls, the sooner they will marry.

Chorus

D D D D D D A A
Take her by the lily white hand, lead her like a pigeon,
G D D G D D D D
Make her dance the weevily wheat, and scatter her religion.

Chorus

Strum pattern: I use DDUUDU except for the G D D G parts, where I use a rapid DDU for each chord.

As with many folk songs, there are many versions. I like this one because it is not only traditional,
but also has delightfully ambiguous lyrics.
