When It Was Ours

When It Was Ours

Recorded by Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott on the album 'What Have We Become'.

Tabbed by $teve Zodiac and Malcolm Ion

We have tabbed it in the key it was recorded in i.e. E major.
However if you use a capo at fret 2 and play all the chords
a whole tone down (i.e. E bcomes D, A becomes G etc. etc.)
using the facility on this page, you can still play along to the CD.
Email me if there are any problems.
If you think it needs any adjustments or amendments then please email me and I'll edit it.

Verse 1
E A
A Daffodil a rusty swing
         B E
A broken bench where once sat King
E A
A mouldy doll looks to the stars
           B E
And it was mine and it was yours when it was ours

Verse 2
E A
A withered tree where birds did sing
         B E
A broken song upon the wing
E A
Those feathered hearts looked up to mars
            B E
When it was mine and it was yours and it was ours

Chorus
       C#m G#m
It was ours when I was yours
            A
Before this place went on all fours
         F#m B
Now it's under lock and key
         E E7
it isn't you it isn't me
           C#m
It's other couples falling walls
     A
It's other couples punctured balls
               F#m B
No wasp filled jars or last hurrahs
             E
Now it ain't ours

Verse 3
E A
The conversation the whisper laugh
       B E
Is overgrown like garden path
E A
The twisted branch the crooked stairs
       B E
It was yours it was mine now it's all theirs

Verse 4
E A
The bicycle with buckled wheel
            B E
Lays on the grass like how we feel
E A
A sparrow dies then Eagle soars
             B E
Now it's all theirs no longer mine no longer yours

Chorus
       C#m G#m
It was ours when I was yours
            A
Before this place went on all fours
         F#m B
Now it's under lock and key
         E E7
it isn't you it isn't me
           C#m
It's other couples falling walls
     A
It's other couples punctured balls
               F#m B
No wasp filled jars or last hurrahs
             E
Now it ain't ours

Verse 3
E A
Revisit graveyards pubs and clubs
             B E
But don't go back to the place you love
E A
They quickly return to distant shores
                 B E
When they're not ours no longer mine no longer yours

Chorus
       C#m G#m
It was ours when I was yours
            A
Before this place went on all fours
         F#m B
Now it's under lock and key
         E E7
it isn't you it isn't me
           C#m
It's other couples falling walls
     A
It's other couples punctured balls
               F#m B
No wasp filled jars or last hurrahs
             E
Now it ain't ours
