Bridge

Song: Bridge
Artist: Queensryche

By: Steven Smigiel

I put stuff out there for a guy playing solo acoustic guitar.
I like open chords for the bass & resonation. I’ll always give
the lyrics and enough tab to get you going. I’m sure all the chords
have more technical names but when I’m playing I use this for a
reference. -Steve

I tune to standard 440 but one fret lower. So E is Eb etc.
E A D G B E

The * is just sliding your finger down a fret for the bass
line note then back to the chord shape

Chord Shapes:

   Bm(intro*) A A* G G* Bm D C C* Em F#m(barre) F#

Tab
The Bm** is another chord where you pull off
and on with the pinky. This repeats continuously
through the verses.

Bm intro* You called me up on the phone today
Struggling with the right words to say
Time can change a thing or two
Time has changed the lives of me and you
But you know AA*A GG*G
it could have been Bm different dad

Bm** The word brings back a sweet memory
I’m sitting on a bluff on a broken tree
By my side a distinguished man
Giving me encouragement, telling me I can
And you know AA*A GG*G
You’re not there

D You say Son let’s forget the past
I want another chance, gonna make it last
You’re begging me for a brand new start
Trying to mend a bridge that’s been blown apart,
But you know CC*C GG*G
You never Bm built it dad

(a nice slide down the E string into the chord works well here)

Em And so I sit here through the F#m night,
And I write myself to G sleep,
And time keeps ticking BmBm**Bm AA*A GG*G
BmBm**Bm GG*G F# BmBm**Bm

Bm** Time has made you finally realize
Your loneliness and your guilt inside
You’re reaching for something you never had
Turning around now you’re looking back
And you know AA*A GG*G I’m not there

D You say “Son, let’s forget the past
I want another chance, gonna make it last”
You’re begging me for a brand new start,
Trying to mend a bridge that’s been blown apart,
But you know CC*C GG*G

You never B built it dad.
You never A built it dad.
You never G built it dad.
You never F# built it dad.
You never Em built it dad. Bm

--This reminds me of Cat’s in the Cradle by Harry Chapin.
If you listen to it you’ll se what I’m getting at. Good luck. Peace.
