VERSE 1:
          C/G Em
Oh! when, you go out with, another guy, how it hurts my pride,
     C/G Em
Oh! you'll never know how it, hurts me so, way down deep inside.
F Em
I feel so bad, but, I don't feel mad,
F D
What can I do, I love only you.

CHORUS 1:
          C/G Am
And so I, swallowed up, swallowed, swallowed my pride,
    C/G Am F F# - G
And kept it, yes, kept it inside, because I've heard.
NC C/G
That pride is such a little word.

VERSE 3:
C/G Em
I took you out just the other night, to a movie show,
    C/G Em
Oh! Right at the end you saw a friend and said you'd have to go.
F Em
You walked away and left me alone,
F D
What could I say, when he walked you home.

    C/G Am F F# - G
And kept it, yes, kept it inside, because I've heard,
NC C/G
That pride is such a little word.

Notes.
1. Technically, Ray was perhaps not quite as strong a singer as some of his
contemporaries (but measured against voices like Billy Thorpe, Max Merritt, Normie
Rowe and Tony Worsley, that's no criticism) but he had a smooth, pleasing and
instantly recognisable tenor voice with a particularly emotive upper register,
which he used to great effect on hits like "Pride" and "Fool Fool Fool".
